James Fleming & Co Ltd manufactures specialist and innovative products, primarily for the bakery, pastry and confectionery industries. The two individual brands, Flemings and Mather’s, are renowned world-wide for quality and excellence.
James Fleming & Co was using heavy fuel oil to produce steam at their factory near Edinburgh (Fleming’s). To reduce their costs, improve the availability of supplies and to reduce their carbon emissions, the client decided to replace the heavy fuel oil with mains gas and to convert the boilers.
The client appointed Business Cost Consultants to obtain competitive prices for installing the new gas supply and updating the boilers. BCC was also asked to provide recommendations on ways to reduce water costs for Mather’s.
The BCC team managed the tender process to ensure that the client was receiving the best deal possible.
The team also investigated water consumption in order to identify ways to reduce water costs. Upon visiting the site, they discovered that water meters of the wrong sizes were being used.
Replacement of machinery resulted in James Fleming & Co saving thousands of pounds per annum on their running costs, as well as using less energy and significantly reducing carbon emissions.
Further savings were also identified through overcharges and trade effluent.
